Ethics and Standards for Remote Interpreters

Course description: The primary focus of this lesson is to help you understand codes of ethics and how they work in the national and international contexts of remote interpreting. This lesson introduces you to the differences between codes of ethics, standards of practice, international standards and best practices. Maybe more importantly, it will help you decide which code, or codes, of ethics you should follow as a remote interpreter in specific situations.  If you are a remote interpreter who works across several different specializations, and / or more than one country, how do you decide which code of ethics to follow?  And how do you follow them? After you take this lesson, and the next lesson on ethics, you will have clear guidance on what to do to support ethical practice in any specialization of remote interpreting, no matter where you work.

Note: In CCC courses, “remote interpreting” and “distance interpreting” are considered synonyms.
