The Community Interpreter® International Training of Trainers - Summer 2024

Become licensed to train interpreters in the most trusted and comprehensive entry-level program in the field: The Community Interpreter® International (TCII). Attend this online training of trainers (TOT) and learn how to lead your own sessions of the only national 40-hour licensed certificate program for community, educational and medical interpreting.

This internationally famous TOT has licensed over 400 trainers across the U.S. and worldwide to deliver that program. You’ll receive:

  • Two textbooks (one in 6th edition) and a workbook to teach either community or medical interpreting.
  • A 400+ page step-by-step trainer’s guide to teach the programs.
  • A 4th edition handbook on medical terminology for interpreters.
  • A TOT certificate.
  • Licensing in perpetuity with no fees, renewable at no cost every ten years.

After licensing you will also receive:

  • Access to a licensed-trainers website.
  • Authorization to download the teaching materials (PowerPoint slide kits, exit exam and answer key, handouts, activity templates, suggestions for videos and more).
  • An electronic instructor’s guide to teach medical terminology.

Get licensed to teach the nation’s most interactive, learner-centered program focused on interpreting skills and decision-making. The dynamic, intensive online TOT includes role plays, videos, engaging activities, teaching practice and more.

All participants accepted into this TOT are required to complete The Community Interpreter® Online (TCIO) or its condensed version, The Community Interpreter Online Condensed (TCIC), before the license is issued—and ideally before the first day of the TOT. Eligibility for TCIC is dependent on previous training and experience. The fee for TCIO or TCIC is included in participants’ TOT registration fee. (Exemptions granted for participants who have completed an onsite or online version of The Community Interpreter® within the last three years. Training certificate must be submitted as proof.)

All participants for this online TOT must have:

  • A desktop or laptop computer with a webcam. (The course may not be taken on a tablet, phone or other small device.) Participants must be visible on their webcam during class.
  • Reasonably stable, reliable high-speed internet.
  • A headset with microphone or good earbuds with microphone. (We've used headsets such as this one for training.)

Feedback from our participants:

This training has been a dramatic learning curve for me but in a highly positive sense. The course was filled with so many AHA!! moments and eye-opening experiences that gave me deeper insights both into the profession of community interpreter and also equipped me with invaluable teaching strategies and tools.

I really valued the amount of expertise from the instructors as well as from my colleagues.
