This class features the book Medical Terminology for Interpreters, which is included with your enrollment (a $60 value!). A copy will be mailed to participants in time for the start of this class. CCC will ship books approximately two weeks prior to the start date of this course.

Medical Terminology for Healthcare Interpreters – February 2025

This eight-hour class is an invaluable resource for interpreters in healthcare settings. Under the expert guidance of Cindy Roat, you'll receive an essential grounding in:

  • Greek and Latin roots and affixes
  • Medical Specialties
  • Use of Register
  • Anatomy and body systems
  • Medical tests and procedures
  • Symptoms
  • Resources for continued learning

While taught in English, there will be opportunities for participants to learn and practice conversion of medical terms into their non-English languages. 

All course participants will receive a hardcopy of Medical Terminology for Interpreters. CCC will ship the books approximately two weeks prior to the start date of this course.

Class Schedule: February 15  & 22, 2025

Timetable: 12:00-5:00 p.m. ET (9:00 a.m.-2:00p.m. PT) with a break from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET (11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. PT)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common roots and affixes used in medical terms.
  • Describe common medical tests and procedures.
  • Find non-English equivalents for commonly referenced anatomical structures, procedures, symptoms, and acronyms.

Technical Requirements:

  • Desktop or laptop computer (recommend i5 processor or above) with webcam (The course may not be taken on a tablet, phone or other small device.)
  • Zoom (Update to the Latest Version)
  • Chrome or Firefox (Updated Version)
  • Quality headset with boom mounted microphone 
  • High speed internet (minimum 5 mbps upload/10 download) 
  • Ethernet cable (Must connect computer directly to router. Minimum quality CAT6)*
  • Ethernet to USB adapter (if needed)*
  • External Monitor*

Attendance Policy for Live Online Training Programs

In order to receive a course completion certificate, participants in our live online programs must submit all applicable documentation; complete all coursework requirements; be visible on their webcam for the entire program; and complete the applicable attendance requirement:

  • For live online programs shorter than 10 hours, participants must attend all live scheduled hours.
  • For live online programs 10 hours or longer, participants may miss no more than 10% of the total live scheduled hours. (For example, attendance of 18 hours is required for a 20-hour program; attendance of 36 hours is required for a 40-hour program.)

Disruptive Behavior Policy

In order to uphold the collaborative nature of our online training programs, onboardings, support sessions and webinars, Cross-Cultural Communications reserves the right to remove any participant for abusive or aggressive behavior, spoken or written, towards CCC staff, trainers or other participants.
