Interpreting in Education - March 2025
Interpreting in educational settings requires a unique set of skills and knowledge to ensure effective communication between educators and families who speak a language other than English. This engaging 4-hour training workshop will provide an invaluable foundation to interpreters who wish to work in K-12 public education environments. Course participants will gain an understanding of interpreter ethics, effective communication management strategies, and specialized terminology necessary for success.
Participants will explore ethical principles tailored to the educational context, focusing on maintaining accuracy, impartiality, and professional conduct. They will also develop skills to effectively manage the flow of communication while interpreting to ensure there is clarity and understanding by all parties. Additionally, participants will gain an understanding of specialized educational terminology, including Individualized Education Program (IEP) terms such as FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education), LRE (Least Restrictive Environment) and BIP (Behavioral Intervention Plan).
